Sam’s Club To Offer TV/Home Theater Installation
Sam’s Club is testing TV and home theater installations at 106 clubs and plan to roll out the services at all of its clubs by the end of the holiday season, Reuters reported.
Although flat-panel TV sales are strong, sale prices and margins continue to sink. Sam’s, like other retailers, is hoping to augment that drop with higher-margin installation services. The retailer does not expect to add more employees with deep “electronics training,” Reuters quoted Sam’s CEO Doug McMillon as saying. Instead, the company will use third parties for the services and is currently testing them at clubs in Florida and Minneapolis, Reuters reported.
“I don’t think you should expect to see five associates in there that are extraordinarily well trained,” McMillon said, according to Reuters. “I would like to be able to answer some common sense question, but our primary offering here is brands for less.”
