Samsung Attempts to Bring HDTV to the Masses
By Joe Paone
NEW YORK — Samsung Electronics America, Inc. has unveiled a new line of flat, direct-view HDTV monitors at a price point that might begin to catch the eyes of the average retail consumer.
Samsung announced three new lines of DynaFlat monitors, two of which are targeted at discerning home theater buffs. But a third, called the 96 Series, is aimed at the mass market, and features three models: 27" and 32" flatscreens in the traditional 4:3 aspect ratio, and a 30" 16:9 widescreen. Samsung is hoping to attract the mass market with its pricing — the 27" model has an MSRP of $799.
