Samsung, Microsoft Make PlayReady Deal
Samsung Electronics and Microsoft Tuesday announced that they have reached an agreement to include the software giant's PlayReady DRM technology available on various Samsung consumer devices.
The deal includes TVs, phones, digital video players and more. The first devices with PlayReady will appear this year, with Microsoft devices switching from Windows Media Digital Rights Management to PlayReady by 2012.
"We share Samsung's dedication to deliver on the promise of making digital entertainment content available in more scenarios and on more devices," Steve Guggenheimer, corporate vice president of the Original Equipment Manufacturer Division at Microsoft, said as part of the announcement.
