Samsung Helps Drive OLED Market, Overall Revenue Up
Sony may have grabbed the attention at CES with the release of its 11” XEL-1 OLED TV, Samsung SDI led the market, helping push overall shipments to more than 20 million, up 30 percent quarter to quarter but down nine percent year to year. For the year, total revenues grew 6 percent to $493.9 million and total shipments grew 8 percent to 74.7 million, according to the DisplaySearch Quarterly OLED Shipment and Forecast Report. The report also shows the shipment mix is changing, as AMOLEDs had a 9.7 percent share of total revenues in Q3’07, which jumped to 41 percent in Q4’07.
“By Q1’08, DisplaySearch forecasts AMOLEDs will represent 55.6% of total revenues as LG Display enters the AMOLED market and Chi Mei EL, Samsung SDI and Sony continue to ramp up,” said Barry Young, a senior advisor at DisplaySearch.
