Samsung Takes Over #1 in Mobile Phone Display Survey
Samsung has taken over the lead in market share in the mobile phone display sector, following a tumble by Sharp into the #3 spot in the second quarter, according to figures released Monday by the research firm DisplaySearch.
According to the survey, titled Quarterly Mobile Phone Shipment and Forecast Report, Samsung SDI leads all suppliers with 13.5 percent of the market (with 37.1 million units), followed by Wintek with 34 percent and Sharp with 31.2. Epson Imaging was fourth with 11.1 percent, with TPO coming in fifth with 9.1 percent. The “other” category accounted for 42.7 percent of the market.
The change marked a 21 percent drop for Sharp, driven mostly by a drop in Motorola purchases from last year. Overall, display shipment revenues dropped 16 percent from the same period last year, to $243 billion.
