Satellite Radio in Orbit
Alpine will ship Sirius aftermarket hardware after it completes its XM Satellite Radio hardware roll out.
Clarion will have an aftermarket Sirius product available this summer to coincide with the launch of the Sirius service, according to Michael Townsend, Clarion's director of marketing. The Sirius product will be an FM-modulated add-on that will work with any existing FM stereo. The company will also supply Sirius and XM products to the OEMs.
Jensen will begin initial rollouts of Sirius hardware with discrete units by mid-year in limited quantities, with mass production beginning at the end of 2001. Dale DiBernardo, senior project manager at Jensen, said, "There's not enough time to do the necessary marketing to support the product, so we see a January 2002 roll out with two products—one a separate display control unit and the satellite receiver, the other a Jensen headunit with an AM/FM/satellite (tuner) in conjunction with the satellite receiver."
