The Source: SED Improves Efficiencies
When Jim Overwyk joined SED last winter as vice president of operations, the company was achieving same-day ship rates of about 95 percent. Not bad by most standards, but Overwyk knew he could do better.
To improve the rates, Overwyk and his team worked to gain a better understanding of the capabilities and capacities of SED’s four U.S. warehouses; analyzed the arrival and departure times of UPS and FedEx trucks and adjusted employee’s shifts to optimize shipping efficiencies; encouraged those carriers to establish better drop and ship times for SED customers; and coordinated its warehouses for more organized shipments.
Those improvements eventually generated same-day ship rates averaging 99.9 percent, according to the company.
