The following three companies, awarded recognition at CE Week for unique and well-executed product concepts, showed their inventions in a specially crafted area of the CE Week show floor devoted to startups.
The Technovation Award was presented to Seek Thermal, for its infrared Smartphone Thermal Imaging Camera ($250), appropriate for a host of in-home applications such as locating electrical shorts, air leaks in windows and drain clogs in homes. It also works as a tool to aid in outdoor navigation in the dark. It plugs into a smartphone and interprets infrared light, showing bright colors in “hot” areas and dark colors in “cool” areas. The camera boasts a 1,000-foot range of operation and attaches to iOS or Android phones. It is powered directly from the phone’s battery. Accepting the award was the company’s Brent LaSala.
Finalist BodiMetrics was recognized for its Performance Monitor fitness/wellness tracker ($249), which captures multiple vital health metrics in about 20 seconds. These include ECG data, pulse/heart rate, blood oxygenation, temperature, blood pressure and calorie burn, providing the user with both visual and audible data. It can store data of 100 records for up to four users, and its iWellness app automatically syncs with Apple’s Health app. Accepting the award was the company’s Neil Friedman.
