Ultimate Electronics now competes with Tweeter-owned stores in Phoenix—Sound Advice's three Showcase Home Entertainment stores. But Dallas will be "the first time we'll actually be up against the Tweeter model," Workman said.
Neither Workman nor Vice President of Marketing Jim Pearse seem to be bothered by the prospect, with Workman contending his company's stores are "more thoroughly and carefully merchandised."
"Personally, I believe there is more than enough business for both Tweeter and ourselves to do very well in Dallas," Workman said, estimating Dallas/Fort Worth to be a $1.3 billion consumer electronics market. "Even if we're both very successful pulling $220 to $250 million out of the marketplace, it's a huge marketplace in terms of consumer electronics."
