What’s the future hold for Blu-ray? Will consumers jump at Internet features on TV? Will Sony offer Wi-Fi on BD players? Dealerscope went for all of that during a conversation with Sony’s Randy Waynick during the company’s Open House event in Las Vegas in February, where among other things, the company unveiled two new Blu-ray players and a re-launch of the Bravia Internet Video Link.
Dealerscope: Now that there’s only one high-definition format for consumers, what is the next big challenge for Blu-ray adoption?
Randy Waynick: A lot of consumers don’t know how good HD can be in a disc format. So the big battle is going to be upscaling DVD vs. Blu-ray. It’s really about the education with the consumers and still has to get mass adoption.
