Seniors Embrace the Wii
One of the reasons why the Nintendo Wii has become its generation’s most popular gaming console is that it has managed to appeal to various demographics not typically associated with gaming. Add another nontraditional demographic to the list of Wii fans: senior citizens.
According to reports in both the Midwestern U.S. and Western Canada, seniors are crazy about the Wii, with nursing homes, senior living communities and other places where older Americans congregate making the console available.
The news station KHQA, which covers several towns in Iowa and Illinois, reported Sunday that ever since a Wii was installed at a local senior residence called the Kensington, the residents have put the bridge and board games aside in favor of the console. In fact, the Kensington will be competing in a Wii tournament next month against another local facility that also recently got the Wii.
