Sharp’s 70-inch LED LCD TV Hits Retail
Sharp Electronics announced that it has begun selling the largest LED LCD TV on the market – the 70-inch 120Hz AQUOS Quattron LC-70LE732U ($3,799) – the first model in what will be a four-model series the company will field in 2011 in the 70-inch class.
Sets have started rolling out to major CE retailers and will soon be available in 3,000 outlets, filling market demand for what Sharp said is the most desired LCD TV category – ultra-large screens.
“In the last 12 months, total TV volume purchases were down 10 percent, but the growth is in the 60-inch-plus category – up about 400 percent,” said John Herrington, president of Sharp Electronics Marketing Co. of America (SEMCA). He said Sharp has held a number one market-share position in that size niche since 2008.
