Sharp Recaptures LCD Lead
Three months after coming seemingly out of nowhere to the top position in market share among LCD TV producers, Vizio took a small step back in the third quarter, falling back behind more established brand Sharp. That’s according to the latest statistics measuring the North America market from the research firm DisplaySearch, released Thursday.
According to the study, Sharp’s sales jumped 65 percent from the second quarter to the third, putting the company in first place in market share with 11.3 percent, narrowly edging out the 10.9 percent figure for Vizio, which grew as well, albeit at a slower rate than Sharp. Samsung came in third with 10.7 percent, followed by Sony and Funai.
Vizio also found itself overtaken in the overall flat panel market, as Samsung moved into the top spot after falling behind in the second quarter. Sharp and Sony followed.
