Growth Seen in Connected TV
Shipments of connected TV products are seen reaching 40 million worldwide this year, rising as high as 118 million by 2014. That's according to numbers released Monday by DisplaySearch, as part of its Q3’10 Quarterly TV Design and Features Report.
The growth of connected TV is seen by DisplaySearch in contrast to 3D TV, which has gained more media attention but less real-world success. The report did note, though, that expectations for the North American market have been scaled back, due largely to overall weakness in the TV market.
"I think most of the TV supply chain senses that this is a seismic shift in the usage of TV that will be far more significant than 3D, which will not alter TV function or usage patterns," Paul Gray, DisplaySearch's Director of European TV Research, said as part of the announcement.
