iSuppli: CE 3.0 is On the Way
Shipments of video-enabled electronics devices that include wireless connectivity are set to grow exponentially, according to numbers released this week by iSuppli Corp. The research firm projected that global shipments of the devices will grow from just over 600,000 last year to more than 85 million in 2014.
The "wireless video-enabled consumer electronics" category includes wireless-enabled digital TVs and portable computers, among other devices. The firm refers to such products as "CE 3.0," which is defined by the "paramount importance of connectivity."
“With the transition to digital technology and High-Definition (HD) largely a fait accompli, the CE market now is rapidly transitioning to an era when connectivity among consumer electronics devices and to the Internet will be the driving force behind many key innovations and new capabilities,” said Randy Lawson, principal analyst for consumer and display electronics at iSuppli.
