Shutl Readies Same-Day Delivery Service in U.S.
Shutl, the company that successfully brought same-day delivery capability to retailers in the U.K., is launching its service in San Francisco, Chicago and New York next month with 17 additional markets to follow over the next year. Positioned as a tool that gives retailers "a sustainable competitive advantage" over Amazon, Shutl offers online shoppers the choice to have orders delivered within 90 minutes of purchase or to choose a one-hour delivery window that same day or any day.
"Delivery is the single greatest inhibitor to conversion within your online checkout," said Tom Allason, Shutl founder and CEO. "It's the No. 1 reason why a prospective customer who starts buying online doesn't complete that purchase-it's a cost, convenience or speed of delivery issue. Our simple value proposition is we can help retailers attract and retain customers away from Amazon by offering a convenience proposition Amazon can't match."
Amazon's distribution centers tend to be 80-plus miles away from metro areas, Allason said, which is "too great of a distance to provide our kind of same-day delivery proposition." In New York, for example, Amazon customers have to order before 8:30 am to get delivery by 7 p.m., while in most other metro areas you have to order by 11 a.m. or midday. "That means the consumer is waiting at least 7 hours for delivery," he said. "It's not very fast or convenient."
