Siemens Executive: In-Car CD Decks On the Way Out
Are in-car CD players going the way of the in-car tape deck? It looks that way, at least according to an executive with a top industry manufacturer.
Frank Homann, vice president of the Interior Electronics Solutions group, said at the Ward’s Interiors Show in Detroit last week that CD players will be a thing of the past in new car “as early as 2012,” the Detroit News reported Friday.
Homann called the demise “welcome,” since it would free up space on car dashboards for other gadgets, most notably iPods, cell phones, PDAs and GPS devices. He said he expects makers of both cars and after-market audio products to develop innovative products over time that will better fill the car space.
