Sirius, Chrysler Will Offer “Backseat TV”
In-car presentation of live television has taken a huge step forward, now that Sirius Satellite Radio has announced that it has agreed to an exclusive deal with Chrysler to offer a new product called Backseat TV, which allows children to watch various kids’ shows in the back seats of cars.
The service will make available programming from the “big three” of childrens’ televised entertainment- Nickelodeon, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network- when the product becomes available in some 2008 models. These include the 2008 Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Grand Caravan; Backseat TV will also appear in the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Dodge Magnum, Jeep Commander and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Backseat TV will retail for $470 when packaged with the cars, a price which covers the first year of service, as well as a Sirius subscription. After a year, the service will cost $7 per month for Backseat TV, plus the current $12.95 price for Sirius. The deal is exclusive to Chrysler, but only for 2008, after which it will be offered to other manufacturers.
