Sirius, XM Hire Lobbying Firm
With their high-profile merger facing an uncertain future, America’s two satellite radio companies this week retained the services of a major Washington lobbying firm. XM and Sirius Satellite Radio filed papers Monday stating that they had hired Quinn Gillespie & Associates to lobby the government in favor of the proposed merger, the AP reported.
The acquisition of XM by Sirius, announced in February, has fallen into uncertainty in recent months, with the FCC upfront about its skepticism and the official review process having not yet even begun.
Quinn Gillespie, which was founded just last year, is led by two major government insiders: Former Clinton Administration counsel Jack Quinn, and former Republican National Committee chairman Ed Gillespie. Several other former top Congressional staffers work for the firm as well.
