Leveraging the Internet
CompUSA introduced its Retail 2.0 concept, which takes lessons learned from Internet sales and e-commerce strategies and applies them to brick-and-mortar sales. Smaller retailers, like Datavision in New York, Vann’s in Montana and countless others, are increasing their online push. The combination of traditional and new sales strategies will open the doors for fresh partnerships with both hardware manufacturers and back-office software developers, forcing both sides to work smarter and more efficiently with their retail partners.
The industry should view the lower attendance numbers at CES as the glass being half full, not half empty. Instead of sending a full contingent of employees to the show—many of whom don’t want to be there in the first place and wind up hiding somewhere in the booth or pretending to be busy—companies have started and will continue to send the right people. These are the ones who’ll bring the right messages back to the workplace to develop the right products and sales strategies for next year’s show. We’ll see you there.
