Smartphones Reach Nearly 50 Percent of Phones in U.S.
The percentage of mobile subscribers in the U.S. who own smartphones has reached close to 50 percent for the first time, according to Nielsen statistics released Thursday.
As of February, 49.7% of mobile subscribers have smartphones, up from 36 percent in February. In the last three months, more than two thirds of customers who have purchased mobile devices bought smartphones.
In terms of operating system market share, Android leads with 48 percent of, followed by 32 percent for iOS and 12 percent for BlackBerry.
