Some Converter Box Coupons Expiring
The federal government’s DTV converter box coupon program has hit a couple of snags.
BusinessWeek reported Wednesday that in a Congressional hearing earlier this week, lawmakers heard testimony that some coupons have expired before they could be used. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration, which administers the program, told BusinessWeek that 840,000 coupons recently expired after 90 days, 58 percent of which were never redeemed.
In the hearing, convened by a House Energy and Commerce subcommittee, lawmakers were also told that several retailers, which remained unnamed, had been kicked out of the program due to rules violations.
