Sonos Launches Update to Sonos One Speaker
Sonos just revealed an updated version of the Sonos One smart speaker known as the Sonos One Gen 2. The company did not really put much hype around the launch, but the speaker is available on their website now.
Externally, everything looks the same; the only differences include minor internal tweaks that claim to make the speaker a bit more powerful than before. Users can expect the new update to perform more quickly especially with large files on slow networks. Those that use a streaming service on a reliable Wi-Fi network though will not notice much of a difference
Sonos One Gen 2 features an updated processor, more memory, and support for Bluetooth Low Energy (LE). Sonos is not planning on using Bluetooth LE to stream music, however. The new feature is only being used to make initial pairing of a Sonos speaker to a Wi-Fi network more convenient. Bluetooth LE makes temporary communication between mobile device and the Sonos One much faster.
