Sonos Rolls Out New Home Audio Hardware and Software
Sonos, a manufacturer of connected speaker devices and software, announced a pair of updates on Tuesday that included a new flagship device and new speaker-tuning software. The PLAY:5 smart speaker and Trueplay tuning software will both roll out later this year.
Starting with the new wireless smart speaker, Sonos explained in a statement that the PLAY:5 device is built with six synchronized, custom-designed drivers, three mid-woofers, and three tweeters that create “smooth mids and deep, powerful lows, and crystal clear highs at any volume.” Smart sensors built into the speaker enable new touch controls for playing, pausing, adjusting volume, and changing the track, and they’re responsive, so no matter the orientation of the device, the volume-up button, for example, is always facing up.
And like its predecessor, the Sonos PLAY:5 is compatible with all Sonos smart speakers, and can be controlled with an app that also integrates nearly every popular streaming-music service.
