Sony Announces Blu-ray Players For Fall
Sony this week announced its plans for Blu-ray Disc Players that will be released in the fall, and while the company plans to release several Blu-ray players and recorders in Japan, only one new one will come out in the U.S., and it will be a high-end model.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Sony announced the lineup in Tokyo, which includes a new, as-yet-unnamed player which will retail for $2,000 and be available worldwide in December. It will be on the market alongside the $399 player already introduced in the U.S., as Blu-ray enters the first post-format war holiday season.
The company also said it expects worldwide Blu-ray player and recorder sales will triple in the current year from last year, with Sony itself taking a 44 percent share, the Journal reported.
