Fujio Nishida approaches 2002 confidently, but with prudence

Even in a period of economic humility, Sony Electronics America is faring well in the consumer electronics industry, reporting $13 billion for FY 2001. Part of Sony's success stems from strong returns for its PlayStation 2 gaming product and strong market share in the camcorder and personal audio categories. Back office streamlining, particularly in supply chain management, has also contributed to the company's health. Even so, Sony Electronics president and COO, Fujio Nishida, is approaching the rest of 2002 with caution.
