Sony Fields Multi-Tier BRAVIA 1080p LCD, Microdisplay TVs
While presenting the display lineup, Waynick corroborated the success of the BRAVIA brand launch by citing Display Search statistics that say BRAVIA is #1 in 1080p units sold and revenue generated.
Highlighted at the TV introduction as well was the newest Sony Blu-ray Disc player, the BDP-S300, just announced at an SRP of $499. “Blu-ray discs are doing very well,” said Chris Fawcett, vice president of Home Video Product Marketing, citing Neilsen stats showing that as of mid-May, 70 percent of next-generation high-definition DVDs sold are Blu-ray. He also said that overall cumulative Blu-ray player sales have reached the 1.2 million mark, and that Sony’s DADC facility had already shipped 2.5 million 50GB Blu-ray Discs since last fall.
