Official Details on Sony’s New “Home”
Sony, at the Game Developers’ Conference in San Francisco on Wednesday, introduced two new interactive titles that are part of what the electronics giant is calling “Game 3.0.”
The first product, titled “Home,” will be an avatar-based system that is run through Sony’s Playstation 3 platform, and likely compete with the similar, 4.3 million-user Second Life community. In the game, each player will get their own voice, clothes and “apartment” (hence the title), and be able to socialize with other players, play games, watch movies, and decorate their living spaces.
The other product, “LittleBigPlanet,” is a game that involves the user’s avatar exploring a virtual world and gradually gain the ability to create their own levels, which can be shared with other users. Both products are what Sony executive Phil Harrison is calling “Game 3.0,” a sort of user-generated-content-heavy gaming counterpart to Web 2.0.
