Sony Logs Strong Holiday Sales
Sales of Sony products over its direct web site and call center from Black Friday through Cyber Monday increased 40 percent over last year's numbers, while sales at Sony Stores increased 21 percent for the same period.
Phil Molyneux, president and COO of Sony Electronics, called the numbers "incredibly strong" during a press conference Wednesday at Sony headquarters in New York City. Sales for the same period through national retail accounts "blew our targets away," Molyneux added. He wouldn't give specifics but said sales of Blu-ray players and TVs were strong. VAIO notebooks and Sony Tablet sales were on target, he added.
"Blu-ray was phenomenally successful; we pushed that (category) fairly hard and had some good numbers on the table. I'm really pleased with what we did on TVs," he said. "Overall, I'm really pleased with the results of the holiday (sales)."
