Sony Markets High-End Sound Bar
Sony today will begin selling through its stores and authorized dealers its first premium sound bar product: the $1,299 HT-ST7. The 46-inch-wide system also includes a dual-driver wireless subwoofer and offers Bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communication) “touch and play” connectivity with compatible mobile devices.
For the price, the HT-ST7’s boasts build quality; an aluminum chassis houses nine independent speaker drivers and seven discrete amplifiers. The unit’s electrical circuit board is mounted at the back of the chassis, to minimize electrical noise and isolate it from any speaker’s diaphragm. Electrical and mechanical components were hand-selected and checked through listening with Sony ES and AR product engineers, said Sony.
The ST7 also includes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding technology. Furthermore, its audio characteristics were tweaked by Paul Ottoson, who engineered the sound in the films Zero Dark Thirty, The Hurt Locker and Spiderman 2.
