Sony Takes #1 in LCD Rankings
In a surprise, Sony has taken over the #1 spot in DisplaySearch’s rankings of most shipped LCD brand, based on preliminary figures from the completed quarter that included the holiday season. In that survey, Sony jumped from fourth place the previous quarter to first, marking the first time in the history of the survey that Sony had taken the top spot.
According to DisplaySearch’s Global TV Shipment and Forecast Report, Sony used 83 percent growth from the previous quarter to grab 12.8 percent of the North American LCD panel market, which vaulted it to first over Samsung (12.3 percent), Vizio (10.7 percent) and Sharp (8.4 percent.) All of the above brands reported positive growth, with Sony growing the most and Sharp (2 percent) growing the least.
Sony’s growth was attributed by the research firm to a greater focus on North America, as well as greater “strategic alignment” with big box retailers.
