Sony Takes on DLP, LCOS

2/28/03 — Look out, DLP and LCOS, there's a new bit of alphabet soup in town, and it's looking to trump you both.
Sony yesterday introduced the latest acronym to the high-end digital TV world, unveiling its SXRD technology for the first time to American journalists. SXRD stands for Silicon Crystal (X-tal) Reflective Display, and Sony positions the fixed-pixel technology as suitable for those "most demanding home theater enthusiasts and custom installation specialists" who, in Sony's opinion, want better performance than either DLP or LCOS technologies can provide.
