Sony Unveils 3D Projector
Sony Thursday at CEDIA Expo released its first 3D projector, the VPL-VW90ES, a full HD (1920 x 1080) unit that will retail for about $10,000 and begin shipping sometime in Novemeber.
The VW90ES is part of Sony’s Elevated Standard (ES) line of limited distribution and price-protected products for the custom installation and specialty dealer channel. Brian Siegel, vice president of Sony’s home audio and video business, said the company during the last few months has cracked down on dealers and retailers that weren’t following MAP and Internet sales policies.
The projector, which also works in 2D formats, features 240Hz high-frame rate drive to minimize cross talk image distortion, a single Ultra High Performance (UHP) lamp that delivers 1,000 ANSI lumens, Advanced Iris 3 technology to help deliver sharper images and deeper blacks, and a contrast ratio of 150,000:1.
