Sony Tops Latest Greenpeace Rankings
Greenpeace this week released its latest rankings of the most environmentally friendly consumer electronics brands, and not only did Sony and Sony Ericsson come out on top in the latest Greener Electronics Guide, they were the only brands to post scores higher than 5 on Greenpeace’s scale of 1 to 10.
Sony and Sony Ericsson tied for the lead at 5.1, with handset giant Sony Ericsson chosen based on its chemical component and lack of PVCs, but earning condemnation for a weak recycling rate. Sony, meanwhile, scored high on chemicals and its support of Individual Producer Responsibility, but lost points on energy usage.
Nintendo finished last, with a score just slightly above zero, followed by Microsoft and LGE. Nintendo’s 0.8 score was based on its score of zero on e-waste criteria, as well as a rise in CO2 emissions.
