While heralding the success of a two-year campaign of “renewed commitment” to the custom installation market, Sony president and COO Mike Fasulo announced a grouping of custom-specific products in the AV receiver and projector categories while also taking the wraps off a Sony 4K UHD Blu-ray player, Model UBP-X1000ES, which will support High Dynamic Range (HDR) technology. It is slated to ship next spring, and will feature High-Res Audio capability as well.
Fasulo said Sony currently “dominates” the Blu-ray player category, and has racked up sales gains in several other custom market categories, he said.
“The custom installation channel is driving 4K and HDR (High Dynamic Range) adoption,” Fasulo said, stating that Sony is currently the highest-revenue integrator brand. Some other statistics he quoted: Sony flat-panel use by integrators in projects increased 10 percent over those two years; Sony front projector use by integrators was up by over 20 percent; and Sony AV receiver use by integrators was up 23 percent.
