In a move that could revolutionize speaker audio, Sony has unveiled a transparent, tube-like speaker, the Associated Press reported. The product, called the Sountina, is set to go on sale in Japan next month at the equivalent of $9,600 in U.S. dollars; it is unknown when it will reach North America, or whether it will primarily be targeted at the consumer or commercial market.
The glass speaker, which gets its name from the combination of “sound” and “fountain,” works by spreading sound 360 degrees, all around the tube, and vibrates in order to carry a sound.
Do you think this product will catch on in the U.S.? Talk about it in the Dealerscope forums.
