Sony Will Launch PS3-Based Download Service As Part of Growth Plan
Sony Corp. on Thursday announced a new growth strategy based on making video downloads available on the PlayStation 3 and making 90 percent of its product categories network-capable, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The strategy was announced by company chief executive Howard Stringer at a press conference in Tokyo.
The PS3 download service, which will compete with Microsoft’s XBox Live and Apple’s Apple TV and is expected to launch in the U.S. this summer, and will include movies. This will be followed in the fall by direct downloads to the company’s Bravia TVs.
