British A/V manufacturer Meridian Audio announced that it has acquired the two-year-old New York-based media server company Sooloos, effective immediately, for an undisclosed sum.
“The market climate today is tough, and companies are downscaling, but Meridian is going in the other direction,” commented Graeme Taylor, Meridan’s chief marketing officer, in making the announcement. He added that “broader marketing conditions” have created the need to embrace downloading and content-streaming technologies. “Our competition is no longer just other A/V brands but everyone competing for that dollar,” he said. He pointed out that Meridian and Sooloos share “passion for music” as a core philosophy, as well as a passion for high-quality designed products and a market-driven approach for customer solutions. The combination of strengths of the two organizations “gets over the hurdles” in today’s market, Taylor added, citing R&D synergies and what he termed “unrivaled market access” through Meridian’s distributing network.
The Meridian and the Sooloos brands will be co-exhibited in the Venetian at the 2009 CES, according to Meridian CEO Tim Ireland.
