Industry Must Lead With New Technologies
As many installations grow well beyond a single media room, it’s increasingly difficult to effectively protect all of the equipment throughout a whole-home installation. Whole-house power management systems will offer surge suppression and power conditioning that not only protects sensitive A/V equipment, but also other outlets and systems. For example, this protection can be equally as valuable when dealing with advanced lighting control, HVAC and other systems that are not a part of the entertainment landscape but will always be indispensable parts of a functioning home.
Specialty retailers and custom installers are the absolute lifeblood of the power management manufacturers because they tap into the latent but significant demand for our products. Rarely does a consumer walk into an A/V shop and ask for a top-of-the-line power management system; they don’t know much about the category, but they will be receptive to a dealer who can clearly explain the full benefits of the solution. Since power products increase the life of components, dealers can increase their profits by specifying power management solutions as top-line products in all of their projects.
Regardless of what the future holds, custom installers will always seek the best surge protection, on-demand current and battery backup they can find. Manufacturers that integrate these solutions with the newest technologies, like IP connectivity and whole-house protection/enhancement, will add much-needed value to the industry and thrive for years to come. And the dealers and installers who sell those products will be more profitable for it.
