Sports Fans Continue to Drive CE Market
Consumer electronics sales in the U.S., especially those of high-definition TVs and gaming consoles, are heavily driven by sports fans, as they have been for awhile. That’s according to the latest version of an annual survey released jointly by the Sports Video Group and the Consumer Electronics Association.
According to the Third Annual Sports & Technology Study, video game consoles, especially those of the newer generations, are complementing sports viewership for many fans.
“Sports fans in general own more consumer electronics products than non-fans and video games are certainly no exception,” CEA senior director of market research Tim Herbert said as part of the announcement of the study. “When it comes to specific sports, football is king, both on television and in sports video games.” football is the #1 sport for both sports watchers and gamers, followed by basketball and baseball.
