Sprint GPS: Here Comes the Slifter
On Thursday, Sprint/Nextel announced that it has teamed up with GPShopper to offer a new service: GPS technology, used to search for products at nearby retailers. Called Slifter, the service is available on select Sprint phones, starting now. GPShopper calls the service the “first mobile local product search application.”
The service makes it possible for Sprint customers to search for any keyword, product name, or UPC code, and have their mobile phone return a nearby location where they can find the product, as well as pricing and promotional information. The service, Sprint said, covers 30,000 participating retail stores, and more than 85 million products.
Slifter will be available on some new Sprint phones, and is available for download by current customers for $1.99 per month.
