Stand-up in VR Coming from Comedy Dynamics Production Company
Have you heard the one about the three dudes who all walk into a bar together wearing VR headsets? No? Well, you may soon enough. That’s because Comedy Dynamics is going to become the first production company to shoot entire stand-up comedy specials using virtual reality (VR) technology.
If you’re waiting for some sort of punch line, it’s not coming, because this is a real thing that will actually be happening.
The timing for the announcement is perfect as the first mass market, consumer VR devices begin to hit the market—see Oculus Rift, Samsung's Gear VR, and many, many more. Comedy Dynamics said in a statement that it hopes to capitalize on the sales of VR headsets by completely immersing the audience in stand-up comedy shows. The first shoot in VR will be Season 4 of the production company’s original Hulu series Coming To The Stage, and they explained that they’ll accomplish the feat using a circular rig that will have 10 individual GoPro Hero4 Black 4K cameras attached to it.
