Station Owners Push Mobile TV
A group representing hundreds of TV station owners this week announced their intention to push for a standard to send local TV signals to cell phones and other mobile devices.
According to the AP, the Open Mobile Video Coalition hopes, by next year, to establish an open standard that will allow them to tap what they see as the lucrative market for mobile ads. The announcement came at the National Association of Broadcasters’ meeting in Las Vegas.
The move is seen as a reaction against rapidly falling revenues for local television stations. CBS this month began administering nationwide layoffs in its local news operations.
