The Numbers That Matter
Among those who have seen a 3D movie or event in the last 12 months, 41% plan to buy a 3DTV within three years, while only 18% of those who haven't seen a 3D movie or event in the last 12 months plan to buy a 3DTV within the next three years. Across the board, those planning to buy a 3DTV within the next three years have better impressions of their 3D experience. More claimed it was exciting (49%) and made them feel like part of the action (51%).
Only 4% found the glasses distracting, 6% claimed 3D hurt their eyes and 4% found it gimmicky. Only about 4% say they plan to buy a 3DTV within the next year. While this represents the possibility of more than three million 3DTVs, stronger demand for the technology should occur in the next two years.
Those planning to buy a 3DTV within three years are younger, have higher incomes and tend to consider themselves early technology adopters. About 50% of early adopters plan to own a 3DTV within three years.
