Dealer Profile: Stereo Exchange’s Silver Celebration
Dave Wasserman, president of Stereo Exchange in the downtown SoHo district of Manhattan, is the first to admit that the recession has made frugalistas of even the richest CE buyers.
"The affluent customer is an important part of our business," he said. "After all, no one really needs $20,000 speakers, and customers who buy one-meter interconnect pairs from me for outrageous amounts are less so, in this economy."
But a sense of balance has kept this high-end audio haven humming for the last 25 years, through good times and bad. Wasserman senses that things are now beginning to turn around slowly, especially for his Wall Street clients. And, of course, the audiophile fringe is still there. During the kickoff of a recent multi-day silver-anniversary store celebration, Wasserman said he recently sold a $15,000 pair of interconnects.
