GRAPEVINE, TEX.- Selling customers on the virtues of in-car safety may not be easy, but it's necessary and can be a big boon to mobile retailers. That was the message delivered by Steve Witt, executive vice president of sales and marketing with DICE Electronics, in a morning keynote address at MERA KnowlegeFest.
Witt, who spent many years at Alpine Electronics, based his presentation on the classic Dr. Seuss childrens' book "Green Eggs and Ham," in that while customers don't say "sell me a safe product," when they get the products they tend to like them.
The key, Witt said, is making the safety features "simple and easy to use." Another piece of advice was to "roll safety into the value proposition." He cited several exciting, safety-based technologies that are arriving now and growing- including collision-avoidance systems, lane departure warning systems, blind spot detection and even laser-guided cruise control.
