Strategy Analytics Report: Tablet Market Expected to Grow in 2016
With major players in the tablet space re-imagining how their devices are used and what they can do, a new report by Strategy Analytics predicts that the tablet market is shaping up to experience growth in 2016.
Since the original iPad was introduced in 2010, the global tablet shipment growth has contracted exponentially. The market boomed in 2011, with 311 percent shipment growth, according to the report, but that number continued to shrink over the next several years. And this year, it’s on track to go negative for the first time.
Analysts place some of the blame on the lengthened replacement cycles for tablets—given their hefty price, consumers aren’t likely to upgrade their tablets on an annual or biannual basis, like a smartphone. And additional finger pointing can be done towards the trend of smartphone screens getting larger and larger, with the “phablet” creeping on the tablet’s turf.
