Study: Employee Error Leading Cause of Data Theft
Palisade Systems, themselves in the business of data security, recently audited data theft reports archived by privacyrights.org and concluded that almost 55 percent of breaches over the past year occurred due to employee error. Of all breaches, hackers accounted for a little over 34 percent. Looking at only internal leaks, only about 11 percent were deemed malicious, meaning the majority were unintentional exposures of social security numbers, bank accounts and other sensitive data by employees or consultants hired by a given company.
