Study: One in Four Cell Phones Will Be “Smart” by 2011
The market penetration of smart phones will accelerate to the point where 25 percent of cell phones on the market will be “smart” in four years. That’s according to figures released by Yankee Group, a consulting firm, and reported by the AFP news service.
The study also found that for the segment to reach its full potential, providers must find a better way to integrate advertising into the phones. According to eMarketer figures quoted by AFP, total advertising revenue from cellphones will increase tenfold between now and 2011, to $16 billion.
Yankee Group’s figures were announced at the Mobile Internet World conference in Boston last week.
