Study: Spending on Gadgets Still Strong
Despite generally weak sales in retail across the board thus far this holiday season, consumer electronics have been an exception to the trend.
According to NPD Group statistics cited by the Associated Press, $4.5 billion was spent in the U.S. on electronic gadget between Nov. 18 and Dec. 9 which, while smaller than last year’s figure for the same time period, could boast a rate of growth twice that of overall retail in the U.S.
NPD also found that GPS systems are growing the fastest of any category, followed by digital picture frames. Laptop computers, SLR cameras and LCD TVs were also specifically mentioned as growth categories.
